Maria Posada early rough maquette

Going through some forgotten folders and found the first Maria maquette I made for Book of Life in 2010, 4 years before it was released. At that time the film was called "El Matador". It was a great pleasure to explore ideas with Jorge Gutierrez and Simon Varela and try to translate the style into 3d. Maria's hair changed a lot from this point forward (you can see some notes in the images), and Simon even sculpted it in clay as a reference for us -- he is so great! But her face and overall look stayed pretty close to this look.
